The Calusa Herpetological Society
Of Southwest Florida

Thursday, July 2, 20157:00 pm

Tonight's speaker is Duncan Metts. Duncan has been collecting reptiles for nearly eight years but his fascination for them began at a very early age. He has worked in several positions involving animal care and husbandry including animal care manager at the Calusa Nature Center. He currently spends the majority of his time completing the required training hours in order to obtain his FWC Venomous Reptile Permit.

Duncan's talk will be titled "Getting Your Foot in the Door (personal experience and observation)". It will consist of a brief overview of his history in the reptile industry as well as a series of helpful tips in choosing a feasible goal for yourself and sticking to it. He will have lots of interesting pictures to share as well as a Q&A with him and his trainers Jeremy and Jamie Hargett. They have also agreed to bring a N. naja (Indian cobra) with which Duncan will display some of what they have taught him so far.

After Meeting Dinner

Do you want to talk herps for another hour or two after the meeting? Don't forget to come out to Stevie Tomatoes (a sports bar and grill) on Daniels Blvd and I-75 after the meeting, for food and plenty of informal herp talk with the speaker and other meeting attendees.

WHO'S INVITED ? You are! Anyone with an interest in any aspect of herpetology or herpetoculture is welcome to attend, learn, and exchange their experiences with our friendly membership. Come out to meet others who keep, breed or study reptiles and amphibians, and let them share their fascination with you. We average 20 – 35 people attending every meeting.

Cookies and cold soda, a nightly raffle of live herps, herp products, and books follow each speaker's talk, and lots of herp camaraderie, gossip, and fun can be counted upon at all meetings !
