The Calusa Herpetological Society
Of Southwest Florida

Thursday, January 7, 20217:00 pm on Zoom

Daniel Parker of Sunshine Serpents will be leading a discussion on proposed regulations to restrict keeping and breeding herps in Florida. FWC is moving ahead with draft rules to ban keeping diamondback terrapins, green iguanas, tegus, and Conditional Species (including large constrictors and nile monitors). There are rumors that restrictions to other herp species, both native and exotic, are on the horizon. If you care about these issues, please join the conversation. All Florida herp keepers are invited to join the discussion in the virtual meeting on Zoom. You do not need to be a member of the herp society to participate.

Just for fun, Daniel will also share a few recent photos from the field and his farm. He has recently assisted with field research on alligator snappers and mud turtles. The breeding season for kingsnakes just started up at Sunshine Serpents this week.

Parker's photographs have been published in books such as the newly-released Amphibians and Reptiles of Florida and Amphibians and Reptiles of Sanibel & Captiva Islands: A Natural History. His photos have also appeared in Reptiles, Reptilia, and Herp Nation magazines, as well as numerous other publications worldwide.

Important, please read below.

This talk will be presented live on Zoom. Zoom is an app (program) that allows you to watch and participate in a live presentation. You can watch on any internet/Wifi based device such as a computer, smart phone, tablet, etc. You will be able to ask questions at the end just like our regular meetings if your device has a microphone. We will send a link for you to click on and enter the meeting. Please keep your microphone on mute through the entire presentation unless you are asking a question, then shut it off again

We will not be going to a restaurant for dinner, drinks, and discussions after the meeting, but you can do so in the privacy of your own home.  After the lecture/question section has ended, feel free to hang around on Zoom if you want to talk about other topics. This format is new for us, so let's see how it works.

Sincerely,

   The Board of Directors
